Getting to know anger in two steps

In two steps, anger works as follows:
Step 1: It starts when someone criticizes you, refuses or disagrees otherwise. You personalize this, you feel bad about yourself, and you drop yourself by feeling like someone who is worthless, incomplete or respected.
Step 2: You get angry by criticizing or disapproving an individual who doesn’t approve automatically and often unconsciously. The good thing about this psychological reversal is that you feel good for a while. Feeling angry is usually an easier feeling to live than feeling bad about yourself. Anger, however, is still misguided and can be devastating. Being aware of this emotional dance is your first step in replacing it with better ways of coping.
